"First of all, thank you for the interest in Premier and our first product offerings, the SR150 and SR300.
I would like to clarify a few misconceptions about our company and our products, and how both came to be. I have been riding snowmobiles most of my life. I grew up riding Suzuki, Bolens, Chaparral, Arctic Cat, Yamaha, and Skidoo. Some of my greatest memories as a kid were from riding with my family (even my grandmother had her own machine). My kids have grown up riding 120cc machines, and riding on jump seats behind my wife and me. As they started to outgrow the 120cc (and getting tired of riding behind us ) my wife and I started to look around at the rest of the families out on the trail. What we found in most cases is the young kids were riding old Phazers, etc, or newer 500-600cc machines. Since most of these machines will run 70mph+ with a 90lb kid, and ergonomically fit and handle for a kid like a 30ft boat, we thought this was absurd. Also my wife is 5’2” and frankly the full-sized machines are not the most comfortable size for her either.
In searching for a solution for our kids, we first tried sourcing machines from overseas (since nothing in North America fit the need). But as everyone knows, there are design and quality issues with overseas power sports products. So 2 years ago, we started developing machines that would have updated suspensions, 4-stroke powerplants, and all the features of the full-sized machines. The machines that we will debut to the public in a few weeks are Fully-Conceived, Designed and Prototype tested in the US. Production Engineering and Assembly is jointly achieved by our US and China team (yes these machines are manufactured in China, but we have sourced all components ourselves, have the supplier relationships for quality and replacement parts availability, and have made every effort to make world-class products (yes, I stated WORLD-CLASS Products)). If you doubt there are any high-quality suppliers in China, please look at your favorite products around the house; Most likely some or all have at least some components made in China, including your beloved snowmobile currently in your garage. And most aftermarket snowmobile parts are now made in China.
One issue I have heard is quality concerns, another issue I have heard is price. One thing to remember is a person cannot have both. Quality costs money no matter what country a product is produced in. We are using the best parts, components and materials we can find. We are bringing products to market to fill a segment in the marketplace that used to be the foundation of the sport (for you young riders, most machines were 440cc's or less, and Yamaha in the early 1980s sold more enticers (300cc and 340cc) models than any other). And in case you haven't priced a sled lately, the lowest priced fan-cooled 2-stroke machines are $5500-$7200.00. The average price of a new machine for 2008 was $8500.00. All our machines are 4-stroke technology, use high-quality aluminum t/a shocks, and electric start and reverse as well as full gauges are standard (we are even using LED rear tail lights). We have installed electric visor outlets on all of our machines because all of our helmet models will come standard with an electric shield (we believe clear vision is important to our riders, whatever their age). As far as parts availability, I have experienced back-orders for my “big 4” machines over the years, and based on the frustration these experiences have caused me as a consumer (our season is short enough without having to wait for parts), we will not allow it to
happen to our customers. And yes, we have a parts catalog and will have a complete parts inventory.
By the way, I am 100% American and we are a 100% American company. We are incorporated and listed as a Manufacturer. We pay manufacturer product liability insurance rates. Like many manufacturers, we are outsourcing our production to allow for flexible manufacturing. This will avoid the pressure of canceling a model that has a place in the market, but maybe is not a high-volume model (like what we have seen with the canceling of smaller displacement models from the big 4). We are utilizing foreign partners out of necessity because frankly we tried working with domestic companies for design, engineering and possible manufacturing and assembly. What we ended up receiving was less than acceptable service because we are not GM or Ford, and we missed launching last year because we were lied to and these companies missed their promise dates by 8 weeks or more. On the other hand, we have received the opposite level of service and commitment from our foreign partners. Will this change in the future? We have many more projects under development and testing, so there is the possibility that our current production arrangements could change. We are currently exploring the possibility to have our next production model be partially manufactured here in the US and also fully assembled here. Only time will tell if we can find the right domestic partners for this to happen.
We will be releasing an official press release announcing our entry into the snowmobile marketplace sometime in the next couple of weeks. Our current website is under development until our official launch. If anyone has any questions about the company or our products, please email me directly at chrisbell@PremierRPC.com. If you are skeptical about our quality, I would ask you to reserve your criticism until you see these machines for yourself. We have allowed some to preview our products including a few long-standing snowmobile dealers and also some people have seen our prototypes out on the trail being tested. Not one person, who has seen our machines, has been less than impressed. If you question whether or not there is a market for these machines, you obviously don't have preteens, teens or a wife shorter than 5'4".
Please keep the suggestions and encouragement coming. We have spent 2 years in development, too many dollars to mention, and I quit my career to build products that will hopefully give current kids and families the lifetime of memories that I carry with me now.
As far as our Products, all I can say is these are fully conceived, prototyped and tested in USA. I know the concerns some have about the powersports products coming out of China. Frankly i have comfirmed these quality issues myself. That is why we drive every part of the design and development ourselves, ride these prototypes ourselves, make the improvements ourselves. But we have also partnered with an engineering team in China that is creative and determened too. Our factory for Manufacturing in China is hundreds of miles from the powersports industries, is a company that has been in busniess for 36 years (with a great reputation for quality; has Mercedes, Volvo, and Ford as clients) and our products are being built in their brand-new factory.
Does all this guarantee perfect products? Not quite, as there are no mass produced product in the world that are perfect every time. However, we have put much energy and money into building the highest-quality products we can. Will this be good enough? My goal is to build World-Class Powersports Products, regardless of where the manufacturering is completed. This is our goal, backed by our determination. Only time will prove if our creativity, attention to detail, and ability is good enough. I am a bit biased, but knowing my group here in the USA, and our team in China, i will venture to say our goals are within reach.
